XIII International Terroir Congress
We’re going virtual…
We hope you are safe and well wherever you are in the world.
In light of recent COVID-19 developments, the ITC2020 Organising Committee wanted to provide another update prior to the upcoming abstract cut-off date of 3rd May 2020.
We have been monitoring the impacts as the situation continues to change daily around the world. Given the uncertainties around being able to travel and host gatherings of people, it is not possible for the congress to proceed with everyone meeting in Adelaide.
However, we would like to still capture the value of holding such a congress, considering the effort invested in abstract preparation and reviewing, the fact that the Oeno One Special Issue is still occurring, and that a conference proceedings could still be published.
In lieu of a face-to-face meeting, we have decided to create an engaging online experience using different formats (e.g., live presentations, Q and A sessions or panel discussions; pre-recorded video and powerpoint presentations; virtual tours and interviews). We are not precisely sure how this will look at this stage, and we welcome your feedback on delivery format, but we see this as the best option, given the current situation.
Regardless of how this might translate in a virtual setting, we will continue to review submitted abstracts and produce a conference proceedings in conjunction with publishing selected conference papers in a Special Issue. We hope you agree this will be a positive outcome in such an uncertain time.
Thank you to all the people that have submitted and reviewed abstracts. We had numerous high-quality submissions for the Special Issue in OENO One and have now made these selections for manuscript review.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and to give you the opportunity to adjust your thinking to a virtual congress, we have decided to extend the abstract submission date again by two extra weeks for the conference proceedings, until Sunday May 17th 2020. Please refer to the Call for Abstracts link for further details.
The safety and well-being of our community is our highest priority, particularly during this uncertain time and we will endeavour to keep you up to date as further information comes to hand.
The XIII International Terroir Congress will be still be hosted by the University of Adelaide, Australia. Previous successful congresses have been hosted in France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Hungary and the United States of America.
Since 1996, this biennial event allows the scientific and industry communities to meet and discuss the latest results of research and information on the concept of ‘terroir’. The Meeting will cover the main fields in viticultural, wine and sensory research and innovation focusing on the; History and Innovation of Terroir, People Shaping Terroir, Scales of Terroir and Terroir Conservation.
A comprehensive program is proposed and will feature international and national experts who will cover all concepts related to ‘terroir’. We will offer the opportunity for delegates to virtually see some of the diverse soil, climate, topography and management conditions that have led to a variety of terroirs and wine styles from some of our local wine regions.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, we invite you to participate in the XIIIth International Terroir Congress and we thank you in advance for sharing the news.
Full details about the virtual Congress will be updated on this site in due course.
We hope you can join us in the new virtual setting.
